A friend sent me a picture of these funky little climbing trees and I knew I had to go check it out for myself! Walnut Creek Regional Park in Urbandale, Iowa is a quiet neighborhood park along a paved trail. There isn’t any designated parking, but the street wasn’t very busy when we visited. The parking lot has a subtle ship and is relatively low, with a big kid and baby swings.
You can see more specific details on the Walnut Creek Regional Park page below or check out its location on the interactive map.
There are lots of trees nearby, but none of them are close enough to actually give any shade.
I took this shot shows how far the climbing trees are – they’re under that tornado-ish cloud. Not a long walk by any means, but not right next to the playground either.
They’re well worth the effort! Perfect for kids who like to climb, my 18-month-old was highly amused. I think older kids could probably get even more out of them, climbing up higher. There was an informational sign nearby talking about the trees; I remember reading somewhere that they have plans to include more elements like this, so I can’t wait to see! This is a great little park to stop by and take a walk and burn some energy.
I took these pictures a month or two ago, but I’d imagine that it is a good spot to visit in the cold because you’ll get full sunshine!
