Elk Rock State Park located in Knoxville, Iowa is located about an hour southeast of Des Moines, Iowa. It was the perfect little 1/2 day trip full of hiking, splashing, and tons of birds to see. We also packed a picnic to enjoy after our hike.
Hickory Hills Park has a mid 1900’s barn, pond, and secluded campsites along hiking trails.
Bank Swallow Bend is a diverse wetland area, with great opportunities for birding. There is an active eagle nest on the property, and fishing is allowed.
Yellow Banks Park has unique foliage and pretty views, with several trails to hike and a secluded fishing spot along the river.
