If you were to ask me, I would say there can never be enough playgrounds in the Des Moines area that offer a place to splash and cool off during the heat of the Summer. Fox Creek Park located in Waukee, Iowa offers just that and so much more!
The highlight of Fox Creek Park is the splash pad that has a ton of fountains and sculptures that squirt out water. Children of all ages were having a blast while we were visiting.
Around the Fox Creek park splash pad area, there were two smallish open-air shelters with two picnic tables under each. Around the area, there were also a few benches. My recommendation is to bring your own chairs to make sure you have a place to sit. It was super crowded when we visited, but it was also the first official day it was open.
Fox Creek Park also offers a lot of green areas to lay out towels, to play frisbee or just to run and play. You can tell they are not completely finished with some area. I am anxious to see what they do with the rest.
My kids had so much fun on the playground portion at Fox Creek Park. The playground sits directly next to the splash pad, so kids were running back and forth between the two. The playground offers so many areas to climb. If you have a climber this will be a paradise for them!
The playground also offers two metal slides. I was a little concern if they were getting hot since we were there during the peak of the afternoon. I kept feeling them and they were not hot. A lot of kids who were wet kept sliding down them which I believe kept them cool. Just note, keep an eye on the slides.
Fox Creek Park also has a really nice enclosed shelter. It is not open quite yet, but I am excited to rent it out next year for my sweet girl’s summer birthday party.
Attached to the shelter there are two family restrooms that also include a shower.
On the other side of the park, there are two pickleball courts. I have never played pickleball before, but I know it is becoming popular. There are directions posted right on the fence if you want to give a swing at it.
Some other added touches are the trails that wind through and around the park. Bring your scooter and bike!
There is a native landscaping area which is super neat.
